ASP History: District Attorneys, their deputies, and assistants became state employees, following the enactment of Chapter 978, Wis. Stats., on January 1, 1990. Revenues to support the move originally came from lottery proceeds.
On January 17, 1990, largely through the efforts of Milwaukee ADA's Jon Reddin, (now DDA) Gale Shelton, and others, the Association was formed, initially as a voluntary organization.
One year later, following a WERC election, the Association became the exclusive bargaining agent for Wisconsin's assistant district attorneys.

How We Are Involved: By April 1992, the Association completed a successful negotiation for its first contract with the State of Wisconsin.
Successor contracts were negotiated in October 1993, June 1996, May 1998, the spring of 2000, and the summer of 2003. Negotiations for the 2005-2007 contract will begin shortly.
In July 2000, after years of frustrating experiences with the Wisconsin Legislature, the Association formed and commenced operation of its Political Action Committee (PAC). A three-member advisory committee and ASP's Executive Board directly and carefully administers the activity of the PAC, its contributions and endorsement. No contribution over $1,000, nor any endorsement, can be made without a vote of the PAC membership.
